Large Thigh Puller

Latin: M. adductor magnus

  • To the musculature overview

The large thigh adductor (Musculus adductor magnus) is the largest and strongest and deepest muscle of all adductors in the thigh. Other adductors of the thigh:

  • Comb muscle (M. pectineus)
  • Long femoral adductor (M. adductor longus)
  • Short femoral adductor (M. adductor brevis)
  • Slender muscle (M. gracilis)

Approach, Origin, Innervation

Base: Origin: ischial tuberosity (Tuber ischiadicum) Innervation: N. obturatorius and N. tibialis

  • Medial lip of the bony groin of the femur (labium mediale of the linea aspera)
  • Inner edge of the femoral joint cartilage (Epicondylus medialis femoris)

The large femoral adductor muscle (Musculus adductor magnus) takes over most of the adduction in the hip joint. Therefore, this muscle is specifically trained especially during muscle building and bodybuilding. The large thigh extractor is trained in weight training by the following exercise:

  • Adductor machine

The following stretching exercises apply to these muscles: There are several possibilities to stretch the inner side of the thigh in a targeted manner.

The athlete stands about twice to three times the width of the shoulders apart, with the tips of the feet pointing forward. The body weight is shifted to one side so that the thigh of the side to be stretched is stretched approximately. The upper body should be kept upright.

The second variation is done while sitting. The soles of the feet touch each other while the knees are moved towards the floor.

  • Long femoral adductor (M. adductor longus)
  • Short femoral adductor (M. adductor brevis)
  • Large thigh extractor (M. adductor magnus)
  • Slender muscle (M. gracilis)

Function

The function of the large thigh puller (Musculus adductor magnus) consists of adduction (lateral approach to the body) in the hip joint.
