Latex Allergy: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of latex allergy.

Family history

  • What is the general health of your family members?
  • Are there any diseases in your family that are common?

Social history

  • What is your profession?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What symptoms have you noticed?
  • Do you suffer from watery/itchy eyes, runny nose, frequent sneezing, coughing irritation, skin changes?
  • How long have these symptoms been present?
  • Was there a triggering moment for the symptomatology? Contact with animals, latex, etc.?
  • When do the symptoms occur? Have you noticed any seasonal dependence?
  • How long do they last?
  • Have the symptoms worsened?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Have you observed allergic reactions to the following foods or plants:
    • Foods – avocado, banana, buckwheat, kiwi, mango, papaya, bell bell pepper, passion fruit, peach, raw potato, celery, spinach, tomato.
    • Plants – birch fig (Ficus benjamini), Christ thorn, rubber tree, hemp, evergreen, chestnut, coral spurge, mulberry, oleander, poinsettia.

Self history including medication history.

  • Pre-existing conditions (neurodermatitis, frequent viral infections).

  • Environmental history (air pollutants)
