Learning disabilities and lack of concentration – What is the connection?
Lack of concentration as in the case of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, ADHS for short, is actually often accompanied by learning difficulties. These include, for example, dyslexia and dyscalculia. If a child suffers from ADHD, the question should be asked whether additional learning disabilities exist.
At the same time, it can be useful to have an ADHD diagnosis carried out for existing learning disabilities. Unfortunately, the diagnoses of ADHD and learning disabilities in everyday life are often made by pedagogues who are actually not trained for this. Therefore, if you suspect a learning and concentration weakness, you should consult an experienced child and youth psychiatrist. If the disorders are recognized early, a lot can be done to ensure that the child has fewer problems at school.
