Lemocin®

Lemocin® lozenges are used in the context of inflammatory processes and changes in the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat and associated pain. The lozenges consist of an active ingredient combination of three different drugs. Lemocin® contains the active ingredients tyrothricin, cetrimonium bromide and lidocaine. They serve on the one hand the acute pain relief within the range of the mouth throat area, on the other hand those are disinfecting and work bactericidal, i.e. they work “bacteria killing”.

General information

Lemocin® is taken for sore throat as part of acute pain relief. The drug Lemocin® is available in pharmacies in the form of lozenges. These have a greenish color and taste of lemon or lime.

Lemocin® throat lozenges are therefore used as a temporary support in the treatment of acute painful inflammation in the mouth and throat area. The lozenges are available in pharmacies in 2 package sizes. The small package contains 20 lozenges and the large one 50 lozenges.

The tablets should not be swallowed, but should melt slowly in the mouth. However, they should not dissolve in the cheek pouch. The lozenges should actually be sucked like a sweet, i.e. they should be moved slowly back and forth in the mouth.

In case of pain in the mouth or throat area, the Lemocin® lozenges can be taken every 1-3 hours. However, a maximum of 8 lozenges may be taken daily. When taking Lemocin® it is important to note that they should not be taken for more than 2 days without medical advice.

If the sore throat should last longer than two to three days, you should consult a doctor for a more detailed clarification. If fever, nausea and vomiting or other symptoms occur or the inflammation increases significantly, it is also advisable to consult a doctor. It is important for diabetic patients to know that 1 lozenge corresponds to 0.02 BU (bread units).

Contraindications

As with any drug, there are certain things to be considered when taking Lemocin®. These include, above all, refraining from taking the tablets if there is a known hypersensitivity to the active ingredients tyrothricin, cetrimonium bromide and lidocaine. Likewise, Lemocin® lozenges should not be taken if there is a known hypersensitivity to peppermint flavor.

Furthermore, Lemocin® lozenges contain the sugar sorbitol. If you have a known fructose intolerance, avoid taking Lemocin® lozenges! Sorbitol is a so-called sugar substitute, which is normally converted into fructose in the intestinal tract.

Therefore, when taking Lemocin® in case of fructose intolerance, complaints such as nausea and increased gas formation occur, because the fructose cannot be completely absorbed in the intestine. If small children use Lemocin® lozenges for sore throats, it is important to make sure that they actually suck the tablets, as only then can they develop their full effect. As with many other drugs, taking Lemocin® during pregnancy and the subsequent lactation period is not recommended because there is not yet sufficient data on the safety of taking Lemocin® during pregnancy. At this point, the benefits and risks of treatment with Lemocin® must be weighed and discussed with the treating physician.
