Leukoplakia of Oral Mucosa: Dental Therapy

Conventional nonsurgical therapeutic procedures

  • Initial therapy: removal of possible etiologic factors:
    • Mechanically irritative tooth edges/restorations.
    • Modification or new fabrication of ill-fitting dentures
  • Clinical control after elimination of the possible causes until complete regression of leukoplakia.
  • Without regression tendency after two weeks referral to specialist control / biopsy.
  • Systematic follow-up controls
    • Every six months in the case of non-dysplastic leukoplakia.
    • Every three months in case of dysplastic leukoplakia
    • Long-term controls regardless of the type of therapy
