Level of care for dementia

Since the new care reform with the care level instead of the care levels, the situation for dementia patients has improved significantly. Previously, dementia patients were only considered to be in need of care if they suffered from physical complaints in addition to dementia.Depending on how severely dementia patients are restricted in their ability to cope with everyday life, they receive either level 1 or level 2 care. If there are additional physical complaints that increase the need for care, the affected persons can also be classified in higher care levels and receive care.

Level of care for Parkinson’s disease

People with Parkinson’s disease have a right to support from the long-term care insurance if they are no longer able to perform everyday tasks such as personal hygiene, nutrition, everyday exercise and housekeeping independently. Depending on whether additional illnesses or disabilities exist, the person affected can be classified higher and receive higher benefits. The MDK classifies the level of care and, depending on the impairment of independence, the affected person is usually assigned care level 1 or 2, provided that no further complaints occur.

Level of care after a stroke

A stroke usually occurs suddenly and comes in varying degrees of severity and therefore with different symptoms, which may be temporary or permanent. A stroke can suddenly cause great need for care, whether for a few months or years. Care by relatives at home or in a nursing home may be necessary. An application for care services and classification into a care level should be made quickly. Often the care allowance is not sufficient, so it is often helpful to take out a private supplementary care insurance at an early stage.

Level of care for cancer

Cancer patients, like all other people, have a right to care services if they are in need of care. For cancer patients, this need for care can be temporary, but they are entitled to support in any case. Temporary or permanent, the degrees of care are classified according to various criteria: If you or a relative has cancer or is suffering from the health impairing consequences of the cancer being fought, the application for a level of care should be filled out thoroughly in order to receive the appropriate required benefits.
