Libido Disorders in Women

As libido disorders (synonyms: Appetence disorder; Hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD); Libido disorder; Libido disorder – female; Sexual appetence disorder; ICD-10-GM F52.0: Lack or loss of sexual desire) are “disorders of sex drive.” In most cases, this is a libido deficiency.

In addition to libido deficiency, there is also increased libido, which usually occurs in paraphilias (sexuality deviating from the norm). This includes exhibitionism and fetishism in particular.

Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) is the most common sexual disorder in women.

The prevalence (disease incidence) of reduced libido in premenopausal women aged 20 to 49 years is estimated to be 22-43%.

Approximately 10% of women are thought to have a libido disorder with distress.

Course and prognosis: The prognosis depends largely on the cause of the libido disorder. In the case of organic disorders, normal desire is restored after treatment. Treatment becomes more difficult and, above all, more time-consuming if psychological causes underlie the libido disorder.
