Life expectancy for end-stage breast cancer

End-stage breast cancer today is by no means necessarily associated with a quick death. The average life expectancy from the beginning of the diagnosis of daughter tumours is between 2 – 3.5 years. For one third of women it is 5 years.

It should be noted that these are purely statistical values and each person should be considered individually, so that both longer and shorter life expectancies are realistic. The prognosis depends on the nature of the tumour, as this determines how well the chemo-, hormone or immune therapy works. The location and size of the metastasis are also decisive for the further development of the disease.

Finally, the patient’s age and general health are decisive. If there is also a serious disease such as heart failure, this can have a negative influence on the prognosis. It should also be noted that prognoses made by the doctor are never binding and certain, as complications are always possible, but also unexpected positive developments. – Life expectancy with breast cancer
