Limping Child: Medical History

The medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of the limping child.

Family history

  • What is the general health of your family members?
  • Are there any diseases in your family that are common?
  • Are there any hereditary diseases in your family?

Social anamnesis

Current medical history/systemic medical history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • How long has the child been limping?
  • Have you observed a trigger?
  • Did the limping start suddenly? Or intensified over a longer period of time?
  • Is the child also suffering from a fever? If so, what is the temperature? And how long has the temperature existed?
  • Is there any morning stiffness?
  • Have you noticed any other symptoms? Pain in any other joints?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Is the child’s development proceeding regularly?

Self history incl. medication history.

  • Pre-existing conditions

  • Radiotherapy
  • Vaccination status
  • Allergies
  • Pregnancies
  • Environmental history
