Products
Linden flowers are available in open or sachet form in pharmacies and drugstores. They are an ingredient in cold teas and diaphoretic tea (Species diaphoreticae).
Stem plant
According to the pharmacopoeia, the parent plant of the flowers can be Miller winter linden, Scop. summer linden, and hybrids such as Heyne from the linden family.
Medicinal drug
Linden flowers (Tiliae flos) are used as a medicinal herb. They consist of the whole, dried inflorescences of Miller, Scop., Heyne or a mixture of the above species. Cut flowers are also offered in the trade. Linden bark (Tiliae cortex) and linden wood (Tiliae lignum) are rarely used. Powders and extracts are also produced from the medicinal drug.
Ingredients
Flower constituents include mucilages, flavonoids, essential oil, tannins, and phenolic carboxylic acids.
Fields of application
Linden flowers have traditionally been attributed with diaphoretic and anti-irritant properties. Whether they are actually diaphoretic is disputed.

- As a diaphoretic remedy for colds, flu and fever.
- To relieve irritation in case of sore throat and cough
- As an irritation relieving remedy for map tongue
- Extracts of linden wood are used in alternative medicine for liver problems
Dosage
The flowers are prepared as an infusion with hot water for 5 to 10 minutes and the tea is drunk two to three times a day.
