Lip Lift

Lip lift is a cosmetic procedure in aesthetic medicine and is used to improve the contour and proportions of the lips by widening the red of the lips. In addition, the lip can be surgically lifted. The lip lift can help them achieve a younger, more sensual lip area.

Indications (areas of application)

  • Lip descensus – lowering of the lip.
  • Decreased volume – especially the upper lip increasingly flattens due to aging
  • Vertical wrinkles above the lip – due to loss of elasticity and tension of the skin.

Before surgery

Before surgery, an intensive medical history discussion should be conducted that includes the patient’s medical history and motivation for the procedure. The procedure, any side effects, and the consequences of the surgery should be discussed in detail. Note: The requirements of the explanation are stricter than usual, since courts in the field of aesthetic surgery demand a “relentless” explanation.

Furthermore, you should not take acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), sleeping pills or alcohol for a period of seven to ten days before the operation. Both acetylsalicylic acid and other painkillers delay blood clotting and can lead to unwanted bleeding.Smokers should severely limit their nicotine consumption as early as four weeks before the procedure so as not to jeopardize wound healing.

The surgical procedure

When lifting the lips, the direct lip lift must be fundamentally distinguished from the indirect lip lift. The direct lip lift involves the removal of a narrow strip of skin directly above the red of the lips. Here, the ideal contour is determined and precisely marked. The space created by the removal of the skin is precisely sutured by placing the two edges of the wound (red and white upper lip skin) subcutaneously and intracutaneously (a suture is placed both in the subcutaneous fatty tissue and within the skin, which is invisible from the outside). As a result, the lip is lifted and the red of the lip is widened. The optimal width of the upper lip is 7-8 mm, and that of the lower lip is 10 mm. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia (local anesthesia) while the patient is in a sitting position.

Indirect lip lift is a method in which a narrow strip of skin is removed 3-6 mm below the base of the nose to lift the lip. Preoperatively, precise incision marking and local anesthesia are performed. The wound is also sutured subcutaneously and intracutaneously. With this procedure, the scar disappears particularly well below the nose.

As an alternative to a lip lift, lip augmentation (widening of the red of the lips by injecting filler materials underneath) can be performed to improve lip volume.

After the surgery

After surgery, the wound is dressed. Swelling and hematoma (bruising) may occur as the procedure progresses. The suture material can usually be removed after one week for both procedures.

Benefits

By widening the red of your lips and beautifying the entire lip area, the lip lift helps you achieve a younger, more refreshed appearance and can improve your sense of well-being.
