Lipedema: Medical History

The medical history (history of the patient) represents an important component in the diagnosis of lipedema.

Family history

  • What is the general health of your relatives?
  • Are there any diseases in your family that are common?
  • Are there any hereditary diseases in your family?

Social anamnesis

Current medical history/systemic medical history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What complaints have you noticed?
  • Since when has the swelling of the legs existed? (Puberty, pregnancy, menopause).
  • When does the swelling occur? In the morning? In the evening? Independently of the day?
  • Are the complaints:
    • Bilateral?
    • Symmetrical?
  • Do you have sensitivity to pressure and touch in the affected region?
  • Are your symptoms:
    • Dull?
    • Oppressive?
    • Pulling?
    • Piercing?
  • Are you prone to bruising?
  • Do you feel psychologically burdened?

  • Are you overweight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
