Liver Shrinkage (Cirrhosis): Nutritional Therapy

For the co-treatment of liver cirrhosis, it is recommended to follow several principles of nutrition

  • Balanced diet with 1.2 (-1.5) g protein/kg body weight.
  • Limit salt intake
  • Alcohol must be avoided completely

The increased protein intake serves to maintain he body cell mass.
Only in exceptional cases, for example, in patients in anadvanced stage of hepatic encephalopathy (liver-related brain dysfunction), aProteinrestriktion (protein intake restriction) is necessary.
