Liver spot inflamed

If a liver spot becomes inflamed or a red edge forms around it, this can be due to various causes. These can be rather harmless processes, such as an allergic reaction or an infection. However, a permanent inflammation can also promote a degeneration of cells, which in the worst case can lead to malignant skin cancer (malignant melanoma). For this reason, an inflamed mole should be further clarified by a specialist if possible, in order to reliably exclude dangerous causes. Accompanying symptoms such as pain, stinging, itching or bleeding should be recognized as warning signs of possible degeneration and the doctor should be informed immediately.

Prophylaxis

For the prophylaxis of the acquired mole it can help to avoid UV light, because its formation is also related to sunlight. There is no prevention of congenital moles.

Prognosis

The prognosis of the acquired form of the mole is good, since these are very rarely degenerated and in most cases benign. Clark nevi are an exception, as they more often develop into skin cancer and therefore have a worse prognosis than the other acquired moles. For the congenital forms, the degeneration rate is also higher and therefore the prognosis somewhat worse, but with regular monitoring, detection of skin cancer in the early stages is likely and the chances of cure are good.

Summary

Every human being does not only have a mole, whereby one distinguishes innate from acquired forms. The congenital form of the liver spot should be controlled by observation to a greater extent than the acquired form in order to detect possible degeneration early and to initiate removal. The acquired mole is usually harmless.
