Optional medical device diagnostics – depending on the results of the history, physical examination, laboratory diagnostics, and obligatory medical device diagnostics – for differential diagnostic clarification.
- Electrocardiogram (ECG; recording of the electrical activities of the heart muscle) – if cardiac arrhythmias are suspected, which can occur especially in stage II of Lyme disease.
- Echocardiography (echo; cardiac ultrasound) – when cardiac involvement is suspected (usually in stage II Lyme disease) [question: diameter, ejection fraction, wall motion abnormalities; pericardial effusion?]
- X-ray of the thorax (X-ray thorax/chest), in two planes – due toquestioning heart size?, congestion?
- Abdominal sonography (ultrasound examination of abdominal organs) – if liver or spleen involvement is suspected.
- Magnetic resonance imaging of the skull (cranial MRI, cranial MRI or cMRI) – indications:
- In the diagnosis of vasculitis (inflammation of blood vessels) induced by Borrelia.
- Suspected chronic encephalomyelitis (inflammation of the brain (encephalitis) and spinal cord (myelitis)) or differential diagnostic considerations such as multiple sclerosis (MS).
