Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis: Symptoms, Complaints, Signs

The following symptoms and complaints may indicate lymphocytic choriomeningitis (LCM virus infection):

First-stage symptoms

  • Alopecia (hair loss)
  • Exanthema (skin rash)
  • Symptoms of a flu-like infection
  • Liver dysfunction
  • Leukopenia – reduction of white blood cells.
  • Lymphangiopathy (lymphatic vessel disease).
  • Meningitis (meningitis)
  • Myopericarditis – inflammation of the muscle and outer layer of the heart.
  • Orchitis (inflammation of the testicles)
  • Parotitis (parotid gland inflammation)
  • Pneumonia (pneumonia)
  • Painful eye movements
  • Thrombocytopenia – decrease in blood platelets.

Symptoms of the encephalitic/meningoencephalitic stage.

  • Impaired consciousness
  • Bladder/mast bowel disorders
  • Sleepiness
