Macro- and Micronutrients: What Are Vital Nutrients?

Vital substances (= macro- and micronutrients) are building blocks that our body needs for its diverse cell and organ functions.

The human organism has needed these “vital substances” since the beginning of human history, that is, for 4.4 million years. Some vital substances can be produced by our body itself, but many must be ingested as natural components of our food.

Vital substances (= macro- and micronutrients) are called:

  • Vitamins
  • Minerals
  • Trace elements
  • Essential fatty acids
  • Essential amino acids
  • Secondary plant substances
  • Other vital substances

In Germany, an adequate supply of vital substances is possible through a wholesome diet, taking into account the nutritional recommendations of the German Nutrition Society. (DGE) are possible.

However, the general availability of a rich, wholesome food supply does not always guarantee an adequate individual vital substance supply. An insufficient supply of vital substances (micronutrients) can be caused, for example, by incorrect food preparation, diet, etc., or can be caused by an individual micronutrient requirement (vital substances).

Vital substances are valuable components of your diet. They serve your health, well-being, attractiveness and vitality.
