Main goal of the therapy | Spinal canal stenosis cervical spine treatment without surgery

Main goal of the therapy

The main goal of the patient will be to not be restricted in his or her daily requirements. The development of the supporting muscles around the cervical spine and general posture training are closely related. There are various special exercises and measures for this purpose, such as setting external stimuli and mirror therapy, which the therapist can apply. Finally, the new stable posture is built into everyday situations, the posture at the workplace is optimized and self exercises are given to prevent recurrence.

Exercises from physiotherapy and for at home

To ensure the success of the therapy, the patient should practice regularly at home. Exercises are learned with the therapist and should be easy to perform without many aids.

  • For a training of stability the back position is taken, legs are set up, the arms lie along the body, palms open turned to the ceiling.

Now the patient lolls the entire spine with the idea of lengthening it and pushing the highest point of the head even further out. While maintaining this length, the back of the head is now pressed flat into the support, the tension is held for about 10 seconds, released and repeated several times.

  • The next exercise is the neck extension in the seat, as an approach to everyday life. The feet should be stable and parallel to the hips on the floor.

Hock, knee and hip form approximately right angles. Again, the back lolls straight upwards, with the feeling of extending the spine towards the ceiling. The shoulders should sit relaxed on the stable trunk and not be pulled towards the ears. To stretch the cervical spine even further, the chin is now tilted slightly towards the chest and the highest point of the head is pushed further towards the ceiling. Hold the length and repeat the movement several times. To relax the surrounding muscles and increase head mobility, they regularly perform gentle neck stretches by moving the ear of one side towards the shoulder and slowly and gently turning the chin in different directions.
