Mallow: Dosage

Mallow leaves and flowers are present as a monodrug and in tea mixtures, especially the group of cough, cold and bronchial teas. In addition, the flowers are also found in gastrointestinal tea blends. Extracts of mallow leaves and flowers are also processed, for example, in the form of cough syrup or cough drops.

Mallow: average daily dose

The average daily dose is 5 g of the drug, unless otherwise prescribed.

Mallow – preparation as a tea

To prepare a mallow tea, 1.5-2 g of the finely chopped mallow flowers (1 teaspoon corresponds to about 0.5 g) or 3-5 g of the finely chopped leaves (1 teaspoon corresponds to about 1.8 g) are poured over boiling water and after 5-10 minutes passed through a tea strainer.

A cold extract can also be prepared from the leaves over 5-10 hours, but it should be boiled briefly before boiling.

To develop a therapeutic effect, a cup of the tea sweetened with honey should be drunk several times a day.

When should mallow not be used?

Remedies containing mallow should not be taken when the respiratory tract is obstructed, because the stimulus to cough, which is necessary for the expectoration of mucus, is suppressed by mallow.

Proper storage of mallow

The drug should be kept dry and protected from light.
