Marigold (Calendula)

Products

Preparations from the flowers of calendula are commercially available as tinctures, ointments, gels, oils, and in the form of body care products and cosmetics (e.g., from Weleda). The medicinal drug is available as open goods in pharmacies and drugstores.

The annual marigold from the daisy family is native to Europe.

Medicinal drug

Marigold flowers (Calendulae flos) are commonly used as a medicinal raw material. They consist of the whole or cut, fully unfolded, dried and freed from the inflorescence base individual flowers of the cultivated, double variety of L. Among other things, liquid, oily and ethanolic extracts and tinctures are prepared from the drug.

Effects

The preparations have wound-healing, granulation-promoting, antimicrobial (antibacterial), antiviral, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Indications for use

To promote wound healing, skin disorders, abrasions, minor burns, diaper dermatitis and inflammation of the oral and pharyngeal mucosa.

According to the directions for use.
