Medazepam is commercially available in Germany in tablet form (Rudotel). The active ingredient is not registered in many countries.

Structure and properties

Medazepam (C₁₆H₁₅ClN₂, M_r = 270.8 g/mol) is a 1,4-benzodiazepine derivative.

Effects

Medazepam (ATC N05BA03) has sedative, antianxiety, sleep-inducing, anticonvulsant, and muscle relaxant properties. The effects are due to enhancement of GABAergic transmission.

Indications

For symptomatic treatment of acute and chronic states of tension, agitation, and anxiety.
