Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis: Examination

A comprehensive clinical examination is the basis for selecting further diagnostic steps:

  • General physical examination – including blood pressure, pulse, body weight, height; further:
    • Inspection (viewing).
      • Skin, mucous membranes, and sclerae (white part of the eye) [leading symptoms: generalized edema (water retention occurring all over the body); morning swelling of eyelids, face, lower legs]
    • Auscultation (listening) of the heart [due topossible cause: endocarditis (endocarditis)]
    • Auscultation of the lungs
    • Palpation (palpation) of the abdomen (belly) etc. with an attempt to palpate the liver (tenderness?, tapping pain?, coughing pain?, guarding tension?, hernial ports?, kidney bearing tapping pain?) [due topossible causes: Hepatitis B or C (liver inflammation); liver cirrhosis (nodular liver remodeling with loss of function); visceral abscess (abscess in abdomen)]
  • Urologic/nephrologic examination[due todifferential diagnosis: other forms of glomerulonephritis][due topossible sequelae: renal insufficiency (renal weakness/renal failure)]
  • Health check

Square brackets [ ] indicate possible pathological (pathological) physical findings.
