Mercury Detoxification: Mercury Removal

Mercury excretion is the detoxification (detoxification) of the body to eliminate mercury remaining in the body. Mercury is contained, for example, in the dental filling material amalgam. The so-called amalgam filling has been used in dentistry for a long time and is considered the method of choice both in terms of price and technology. The material consists of 40% silver, 32% tin, 30% copper, 3% mercury and 2% zinc. The toxicity of this amount of mercury is controversial. However, it is known that small amounts enter the organism when an amalgam filling is placed or through daily abrasion. A few people are allergic to amalgam. Others reject this filling material because of the mercury it contains, which may or may not have a negative effect on the body. Although mercury is toxic, it only has a harmful effect on humans above a certain level. Only tiny amounts of the mercury contained in amalgam fillings are released every day. Most of it is excreted again, but a small amount of mercury may remain in the body. In order to remove even this last residue from the body, a professional detoxification, i.e. mercury elimination, can be performed.

The procedure

As mentioned earlier, the amounts of mercury removed during a mercury detox are usually small and do not lead to poisoning. Below you will learn how poisoning manifests itself and how the metal can enter the organism:

Mercury enters the atmosphere artificially through the combustion of coal, fuel oil or garbage. In addition to amalgam fillings, the toxic metal also enters the food chain via seafood. So-called dimethylmercury was once used as a seed ingredient. Mercury can also be easily absorbed through the lungs in the form of vapors. In the organism it is firmly bound to cysteine, glutathione or albumin (amino acids or proteins) and thus stored. Especially in the CNS (central nervous systembrain, spinal cord) it has a long half-life and causes considerable damage. The symptoms of chronic mercury poisoning are:

  • Dermatitis mercurialis – form of inflammatory skin reaction.
  • Diarrhea (diarrhea)
  • Gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) – z. T. bluish-purple “mercury fringe”.
  • Limb pain
  • Hearing disorders
  • Insomnia (sleep disorders)
  • Cachexia
  • Concentration disorders
  • Headaches
  • Paralysis
  • Faintness
  • Psellismus mercurialis – stuttering speech.
  • Redness of the pharyngeal ring (so-called “mercury throat”).
  • Visual disturbances
  • Stomatitis (mercurialis) – inflammation of the oral mucosa with increased salivation, z. T. also dry mouth.
  • Tremor mercurialis – involuntary tremor.
  • Tooth loosening and loss
  • CNS symptoms such as:- Ataxia (gait disturbances)- Erethismus mercurialis – greatly increased excitability (jumpiness) and with a strong urge to move as well as anxious self-consciousness, sensitivity, shyness and mood lability.
    – memory disorders and personality degradation – mercurial tremor (tremor mercurialis)
    – sensory and motor paresis (paralysis)
Speech disorders (psellism mercurialis – stuttering speech / washed out in sibilants)- Sensory disorders.

Following explanations of the procedure of mercury elimination: for the elimination are used herbal extracts, homeopathic remedies or biochemical drugs. These have the task to dissolve the mercury in the body from the depots. The mercury is mobilized and can be excreted from the body. Biochemical drugs are so-called chelating agents, which form a metal complex with the mercury atom as the central atom and can thus be excreted more easily by the kidneys. Such a chelating complex is formed, for example, by the drug DPMS (dimercaptopropane sulfonic acid). Natural preparations are administered to support the success of this therapy or as monotherapy:

  • Algae, especially chlorella
  • Wild garlic
  • Coriander
  • Provitamin A – beta-carotene
  • Vitamin C and E
  • Selenium
  • Alpha lipoic acid

Mercury removal is necessary or useful for the following diseases or health risks:

  • In people who are contaminated with mercury through amalgam fillings.
  • In pregnant women who are contaminated with mercury.
  • In people who have ingested mercury through seafood.

Benefit

Mercury removal is a useful procedure to reduce the risk of damage caused by mercury accumulation in the organism or poisoning.
