Molybdenum: Interactions

Interactions of molybdenum with other micronutrients (vital substances):

Copper

In ruminants, it has been demonstrated that increased intake of molybdenum can lead to copper deficiency. Preparations containing both sulfur and molybdenum, also known as thiomolybdenum, can prevent absorption of copper. This interaction between thiomolybdenums and copper does not apply to humans. An older study reported that molybdenum intake (from millet) of 500 and 1,500 µg/day increased urinary excretion of copper. However, a recent study showed that very high molybdenum intake (up to 1,500 µg/day) did not adversely affect copper status.
