* Rarely hypocalcemia (calcium deficiency) with blood Ca < 2.25 mmol/l = < 9 mg/dl = < 4.5 mval/l, usually normocalcemic forms of tetany are present.

2nd order laboratory parameters – depending on the results of the history, physical examination and obligatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification

  • Cortisol
  • Aldosterone
  • Parathyroid hormone
  • Vitamin D
  • Serum lactate
  • CSF puncture (collection of cerebrospinal fluid by puncture of the spinal canal) for CSF diagnosis.
