Mycoplasma: Symptoms, Complaints, Signs

The following symptoms and complaints may indicate mycoplasma infection:

  • Cold symptoms with headache, aching limbs, cough; may present with pharyngitis (laryngitis), bronchitis
  • Pneumonia (pneumonia)

The following are the mycoplasma pathogens commonly transmitted through sexual intercourse:

Mycoplasma hominis (facultative pathogen).

  • Women
    • Vaginitis/colpitis (inflammation of the vagina)
    • Cervicitis (inflammation of the cervix)
    • Adnexitis (inflammation of the so-called adnexa (Engl.: appendages), ie the fallopian tubes and ovaries.
    • Z.T. abscesses and septicemia
  • Men
    • Prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate)

Ureaplasma urealyticum (facultative pathogen).

  • Women
    • Vaginitis/colpitis
    • Cervicitis
    • Adnexitis
  • Men
    • Urethritis (inflammation of the urethra)
    • Prostatitis
  • Newborn
    • Pneumonia (pneumonia)
