Myoreflex Therapy

Myoreflex therapy is a therapeutic procedure for the treatment of increased basic tension in the skeletal muscles, which is accompanied by stress on both the surrounding soft tissue structure and the joints. By creating so-called conversion stimuli, the body is moved to regenerate the musculoskeletal system through balance production.

Indications (areas of application)

  • Postural asymmetry – as a result of muscular symmetry disorder, which is often accompanied by permanent incorrect loading, chronic postural asymmetries can be caused. The treatment of existing postural asymmetries can be carried out by myoreflex therapy as an additional therapeutic means or as primary therapy.
  • Chronic pain conditions – by a permanent bad posture it inevitably comes to tensions of the muscular system, which can trigger a state of irritation of the surrounding nerve fibers. This may result in a protective posture of the patient, which can be accompanied by increased postural asymmetry and continues to maintain the chronic pain conditions or further intensifies the symptomatology.
  • Vegetative symptoms – muscular pain and postural asymmetries affect not only the function of the musculoskeletal system, but also the autonomic functions of the organism may be disturbed. In particular, the function of the gastrointestinal tract (gastrointestinal tract) can be affected by the increased basic tension of the skeletal muscles.
  • General malaise – as a result of muscular symptoms may also be psychological stress and an increase in symptoms of other existing diseases may result.

Contraindications

  • None

Before therapy

Chronic pain conditions or postural abnormalities can not only postural asymmetries underlying, also chronic infections or even malignant processes can lead to these symptoms. On the basis of this, a detailed anamnesis and diagnosis must not be dispensed with.

The procedure

The procedure of myoreflex therapy is based on the model of the regulatory circuit. By stimulating a bundle of fibers in the muscles, the treating therapist leads them to muscular activity and muscular movement. As a result of this stimulation, central stimulation (in the brain) also occurs through the interconnection of the neurons of the spinal cord. The peripheral stimulation thus leads to an influence on the central control of the activation patterns of the supporting and target motor system. Through this mechanism, myoreflex therapy can be used by the therapist to produce a positive influence on the entire musculoskeletal system by stimulating a single peripheral pressure point.

Elements of modern evidence-based medicine, complementary medicine, and physics can be cited as the basis of myoreflex therapy.

After therapy

No further diagnostic measures need to be performed after therapy. However, if symptoms persist, further diagnostics should be used to clarify the symptoms, if necessary.

Possible complications

Myoreflex therapy is free of complications because the effect of the procedure is based on stimulation of the muscle attachments and no drug therapy needs to be used.
