Nail Psoriasis: Medical History

The anamnesis (medical history) represents an important component in the diagnosis of nail psoriasis (nail psoriasis).

Family history

  • Are there frequent skin/nail diseases in your family?

Social history

  • What is your profession?
  • Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Have you noticed any other changes in the skin besides the nail changes? At which skin sites do these occur?
  • Do you have itching?
  • Do you suffer from other complaints such as joint pain?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Do you smoke? If yes, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
  • Do you drink alcohol? If yes, what drink(s) and how many glasses per day?
  • Do you use drugs? If yes, what drugs and how often per day or per week?

Self history incl. medication history.

  • Pre-existing conditions (skin / nail diseases)
  • Operations
  • Allergies

Medication history

  • ACE inhibitor
  • Beta-blockers
  • Chloroquine
  • Indomethacin may cause exacerbation in some patients with psoriasis
  • Interferon
  • Lithium
  • NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)
