The anamnesis (medical history) represents an important component in the diagnosis of nail psoriasis (nail psoriasis).
Family history
- Are there frequent skin/nail diseases in your family?
Social history
- What is your profession?
- Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?
Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).
- Have you noticed any other changes in the skin besides the nail changes? At which skin sites do these occur?
- Do you have itching?
- Do you suffer from other complaints such as joint pain?
Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.
- Do you smoke? If yes, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day?
- Do you drink alcohol? If yes, what drink(s) and how many glasses per day?
- Do you use drugs? If yes, what drugs and how often per day or per week?
Self history incl. medication history.
- Pre-existing conditions (skin / nail diseases)

- Allergies
Medication history
- ACE inhibitor
- Beta-blockers
- Chloroquine
- Indomethacin may cause exacerbation in some patients with psoriasis
- Interferon
- Lithium
- NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)
