Narcotic

Narcotics (e.g. opioids used in doping) are primarily understood to be the active substance group of morphine and its chemical relatives. These substances primarily have analgesic and euphoric effects. These two factors mean that pain arising in the musculoskeletal system can be better tolerated under maximum stress.

However, the body’s own pain signals are important protective mechanisms of the human body, which can be suppressed by taking a narcotic. The intake of narcotics often leads to considerable side effects. Especially chronic use leads to physical and psychological dependence.

The narcotic is subject to the narcotics law and the unauthorized use will be prosecuted. Since it suppresses the pain stimulus, it is used especially in situations of extreme physical stress. These include those particularly extreme strength and endurance sports.

Other narcotics

In addition to the pain-relieving narcotic (opioids) described above, narcotics can be systematized into further classes. Another narcotic is the hypnotic, which is used as a sleeping pill. Muscle relaxants have a slackening effect on the voluntary muscles. In doping, opioids are used for pain relief.

Opioids

Opioids are the active substance used in doping to suppress the pain that occurs during sporting activities. Here you will find detailed information about opioids.
