Norovirus Infection: Test and Diagnosis

2nd order laboratory parameters – depending on the results of the history, physical examination and obligatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Small blood count
  • Inflammatory parameters – CRP (C-reactive protein).
  • Virus detection in stool/vomiting (noroviruses I/II) – RT-PCT (reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction), antigen EIA, electron microscopic detection.
  • Renal parameters – urea, creatinine, cystatin C if necessary.

Direct detection of Norwalk-like virus from stool must be reported by name (Law on Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases in Humans).
