Nosebleeds (Epistaxis): Diagnostic Tests

Optional medical device diagnostics – depending on the results of the history, physical examination, laboratory diagnostics, and obligatory medical device diagnostics – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Endoscopy of the nose:
    • Anterior rhinoscopy (anterior nasal endoscopy) with nasal speculum and headlamp or magnifying microscope.
    • Rigid endoscopy of the nasal cavity – if bleeding of the posterior nasal cavity is suspected.
  • 24h blood pressure measurement
  • Abdominal ultrasonography (ultrasound examination of the abdominal organs) – for basic diagnostics.
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG; recording of the electrical activity of the heart muscle).
  • Computed tomography of the skull (cranial CT, cranial CT or cCT) – for further diagnostics.
