NZT is a (fictional) agent from the film (2011) based on the novel by Alan Glynn. The film was additionally followed in 2015 by a TV series with the same title, which was canceled after just one season. NZT belongs to the drug group of smart drugs.
Structure and properties
NZT is thallanylzirconio-methyl-tetrahydro-triazatriphenylene. The chemical structure of the substance is not known. NZT is administered in the form of transparent tablets.
Effects
NZT (ATC N06BX) produces marked enhancement of cognitive performance, learning ability, creativity, and memory when administered orally within 30 seconds. The effects last for approximately 12 hours. The effects are based on interaction with neurotransmitter systems.
Indications for use
For cognitive performance enhancement.
Dosage
Tablets are usually taken once daily and usually in the morning. Intravenous use has been reported.
Interactions
NZT should not be combined with alcohol because memory lapses may occur.
Adverse effects
NZT causes hyperactivity, restlessness, and psychiatric disorders. It is neurotoxic. Withdrawal symptoms occur on discontinuation, which can be fatal. NZT alters character, makes one aggressive, and rapidly leads to mental and physical dependence. The development of a cyclic enzyme system has made it possible to eliminate the side effects while maintaining efficacy. This enzyme system must be injected regularly or once.
