Oats

Latin name: Avena sativaGenus: Sweet grass, panicle grass: Description of the plant: The oat is a type of cereal that is widely cultivated. The long stem has panicles consisting of 2 to 4 flowers. Oat grains which are not fused with the outer husks grow from them.

This distinguishes the oat from the other cereals. Flowering time: July to August: Widely cultivated in crops. For the production of the homeopathic preparation it is usually grown in its own cultures because the fresh flowering herb is needed.

Ingredients

Amino acids, B vitamins, phosphorus, iron, zinc, cobalt, manganese, potassium, vitamins K and E, pro-vitamin A. Also the Avenin, an indole alkaloid that has calming properties.

Curative effects and use of oats

The oat plays an important role as a component of spare costs in countless complaints. As a medicine it is mainly used in homeopathic practice.

Application in homeopathy

Nervous exhaustion, insomnia, lack of concentration, heart palpitations are the main areas of application for Avena sativa. Commonly used is D2.

Combination with other medicinal plants

Oats can be combined well with valerian and passion flower. The mixture in equal parts has a sleep-inducing effect.
