Occurrence of facial pain due to drafts

If a person is increasingly exposed to draughts, as is the case when sleeping under an air conditioner, for example, the irritation of the skin can cause a slight facial pain. It is assumed that this irritation leads to a slight swelling of the skin, which then pinches the nerve branches. This constriction is then felt as pain. However, those affected do not need to worry about this, as these symptoms almost always disappear quickly if drafts are avoided. Should the pain still be present after a few days, it is recommended to consult a neurologist to rule out other causes.

Complaints of the cervical spine

Recent studies have shown that facial pain can also be caused by problems in the cervical spine (cervical spine). Pain and functional limitations in the cervical spine are usually summarized under the so-called cervical spine syndrome. The chronic form of this syndrome can last for several months and is usually accompanied by severe pain and muscle hardening, which can cause a restriction in mobility. The irritation of these structures can spread over time and, in addition to neck and shoulder pain, it can also radiate into the facial area, especially into the cheeks and forehead. Thus, if facial pain is present, which is accompanied by pain in the cervical region, a connection between these two symptoms should also be considered.

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease characterized by chronic, therapy-resistant muscle pain that can change its location. Furthermore, there is a strong sensitivity to pressure and other accompanying symptoms such as swelling, fatigue or sleep disturbances. The exact cause and the development of the disease (pathogenesis) are still largely unexplained.

If the muscles of the face are affected by this disease, this can lead to severe facial pain, which becomes worse when speaking or chewing. The symptoms of fibromyalgia can only be influenced to a limited extent by current therapy standards. Within the scope of the so-called multimodal pain therapy, an attempt is made to alleviate the symptoms as much as possible through various therapeutic approaches. In addition to drug treatment with antidepressants, the therapy focuses on relaxation exercises, physical therapy and a change in diet.
