Ointment for children

In children, anal fissures occur significantly less often than in adults. As a rule, there are only one or more small tears in the mucosa, but these usually heal within a few days before a fissure develops. Therefore, a restrained treatment is usually preferred at first.

This includes stool-softening measures, such as the intake of Macrogol or lactulose in infants. A fat cream, such as Vaseline, can be used as a supporting measure. However, this should also be used with restraint and for a few days only. Particular attention should also be paid to adequate anal hygiene after bowel movements.

Apply ointment during pregnancy

During pregnancy anal fissures are more frequent, as the rectum is under increased pressure from the growing baby. For treatment, an adapted anal hygiene as well as small enemas for softening the stool are to be used in the first place. Sitting baths are also recommended during pregnancy, a suitable supplement for this is chamomile, for example.

If the use of an ointment is desired, the Bepanthen ointment can be used. The ointment can be applied several times a day. If there are any uncertainties, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted. In the case of chronic or persistent courses, further ointments can be used in consultation with the treating physician.

Further treatment options

The sitz bath is another treatment option for anal fissures. For this, warm water is let into a bathtub and lavender oil is added, for example. The heat supports the blood circulation in the anus area and thus also promotes the healing of the irritated mucous membrane lesion.

The sitz bath can be used up to three times a day. Furthermore, dietary fibres, such as linseed, can be consumed regularly. They promote a continuous and even digestion, which can reduce the pressure during bowel movements. Further possibilities are offered by homeopathy for an anal fissure and certain home remedies for an anal fissure.
