Oolong

Products

Oolong tea is available, for example, in pharmacies, drugstores and specialty tea stores. It originated in Fujian province in China and is now produced in various Asian countries.

Stem plant

The parent plant is the tea plant from the tea shrub family (Theaceae). It grows into an evergreen shrub or tree.

Medicinal drug

The leaves of the tea plant are used as the medicinal roe. Unlike black tea, oolong is only partially fermented and not fully fermented. The manufacturing process is similar to black tea and includes drying, withering, fermenting, rolling and heating, among others. Oolong is therefore between green tea (not oxidized) and black tea (oxidized) and has a corresponding taste.

Ingredients

  • Methylxanthines: caffeine, theobromine, theophylline.
  • Flavonoids, polyphenols, catechins, tannins.
  • Amino acids, proteins, enzymes
  • Aromatic substances, volatile compounds
  • Minerals, vitamins

Effects

Oolong tea has health-promoting effects. These include antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, thermogenic and lipid-lowering properties. Because of the caffeine, it is mildly stimulating.

Indications for use

Oolong tea is mainly consumed in the West as a health-promoting and mildly stimulating stimulant.
