OP | Shoulder instability – remedy conservatively

OP

Shoulder operations are used if after a certain period of time the conservative methods have not been successful or the injury is too bad and immediate surgery is required. There are a number of different surgical procedures, but all of them aim to stabilize the shoulder joint by shortening the tendons and ligaments and thus tightening them. The most common surgical procedures are listed below: Bench type surgery: An arthroscopic procedure is used to reattach torn or damaged structures with the help of small self-dissolving sutures or bioresorbable screws. Pancapsular plicature: Gathering of the shoulder capsule using anchors and sutures.

Capsule shift surgery: Open surgical procedure in which the shoulder capsule is gathered. Other open surgical procedures in which the shoulder joint is treated through 5-10 cm long incisions. Surgery is also necessary if there is a risk that a nerve is trapped and, in the further course of the operation, permanent nerve loss and thus possibly numbness may occur. This can progress to complete paralysis of the arm.

MTT – Medical Training Therapy

In medical training therapy for shoulder instability, the rehabilitation program consists of several phases. At the beginning of the treatment, the focus is mainly on pain and movement restrictions. Here, exercises are performed to release muscle tension, increase the mobility and strength of the trunk, and improve the lifting capacity and rotation of the shoulder.

After the pain has subsided, mobility training remains in the foreground. Once good mobility has been achieved, it is important to maintain it through targeted strength training. A popular training device in this phase is the Flexi Bar. All in all, medical training therapy is a very active form of therapy, which aims to actively mobilize and stabilize the damaged shoulder, to restore its function and to achieve as complete a loading capacity as possible. It is therefore a useful addition to the existing rehabilitation program.
