Osteopathy: What is it?

Osteopathy is a manual form of medicine that serves to recognize and find functional disorders in the body. The body is regarded as an inseparable unit, which is based on the assumptions of the American physician Dr. A. T. Still. Osteopaths therefore treat their patients as a whole.

Osteopathy can be divided into three areas:

  1. Parietal Osteopathy – treatment of muscles and joints
  2. Visceral Osteopathy – Treatment of internal organs
  3. Craniosacral Osteopathy – Treatment of cranial bone and nervous system

Prolonged back pain is part of the everyday life of many people and can have various causes. One possibility for treatment is osteopathy, which works with bare hands. It looks at the body and its structures in their entirety and recognizes connections between individual body systems.

Osteopathic treatments for back pain are partly covered by health insurance. Osteopathy, also known as “manual medicine”, describes treatments in the field of alternative medicine. The prices for such a treatment range between 60 – 130€ and are covered by most private health insurance companies. At present, statutory health insurance companies reimburse for osteopathic treatments, which varies from health insurance company to health insurance company.
