Otosclerosis: Medical History

The medical history (history of the patient) represents an important component in the diagnosis of otosclerosis.

Family history

  • What is the general health of your family members?
  • Are there any diseases in your family that are common?
  • Are there any hereditary diseases in your family?

Social history

  • What is your profession?
  • Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What complaints have you noticed?
  • How long have these changes existed?
  • Have you noticed any hearing loss? If so, is only one ear affected or both ears?
  • Do you suffer from tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and/or dizziness?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis

Self anamnesis incl. medication anamnesis

  • Previous diseases (diseases of the ears, neurological diseases).
  • Surgeries (ear surgeries, central nervous system surgeries).
  • Radiotherapy
