Ovary and Fallopian Tube Inflammation (Adnexitis): Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) is an important component in the diagnosis of salpingitis or oophoritis (adnexitis/ovary and fallopian tube inflammation).

Family history

Social history

  • Do you have frequently changing sexual partners?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Do you have abdominal pain? If yes, when does the pain occur?
  • Where is the pain localized?
  • How long has the pain existed?
  • Have you noticed any other symptoms such as fever or fatigue?
  • Have you noticed any discharge from the vagina? If so, what color is the discharge?
  • Have you noticed a distended abdomen?

Vegetative history including nutritional history.

  • When was the last menstruation (last menstrual period)?
  • Is your menstrual cycle regular?
  • Have you noticed any changes in your bowel movements or urination (pain, color, quantity, etc.)?
  • Do you follow adequate genital hygiene?

Self history including medication history.

  • Pre-existing conditions (gynecological diseases).
