Tuba uterina, Tuba Fallopii; Greek σαλπίγξ Salpinx)) and ovary (lat.Ovarium; plural ovaries; ancient Greek ώὁφορον oophoron (from ancient Greek. ῴόν oon, German “the egg” and ancient Greek φορὤ phoro, German “to carry”)).These usually occur secondarily as ascending (ascending) infections coming from the uterus (womb) via the vagina (vagina). The two conditions can be grouped under the term adnexitis (inflammation of the female appendages). In each case, the acute form can be distinguished from the chronic form:

  • Acute salpingitis and oophoritis (ICD-10-GM 2019 N70.0).
  • Chronic salpingitis and oophoritis (ICD-10-GM 2019 N70.1)

Frequency peak: acute adnexitis occurs clustered in young, sexually active women. The maximum incidence is between the ages of 16 and 25 years. The incidence (frequency of new cases) is approximately 10 per 1,000 women of childbearing age. Course and prognosis: Acute adnexitis heals without consequences if it is recognized early and treated adequately. Adnexitis can also lead to complications such as tuboovarian abscess (TOA; abscess on the fallopian tube and ovary) and peritonitis (inflammation of the peritoneum). This can lead to tubal infertility (adhesion of the fallopian tubes resulting in infertility). Note: A tuboovarian abscess is an indication for hospitalization for parenteral antimicrobial therapy (infusion therapy with antibiotics) with appropriate anaerobic coverage and monitoring for signs of rupture (rupture) or sepsis (blood poisoning). If therapy is not timely and adequate, the disease may progress to a chronic stage.
