Pain at night

There are a number of hip diseases that present themselves as pain, especially when resting or lying down at night. This is a big problem because the body should recover exactly in this resting phase. If the relaxation phase is lost at night due to pain-related insomnia, this consequently also affects the quality of life and the person affected is less able to perform.

With the correct diagnosis by the doctor and a good therapy, not only existing complaints are reduced, but the patient is also helped back into a normal daily rhythm. One cause of hip pain at night is coxarthrosis. In this disease, incorrect weight-bearing causes wear and tear in the hip joint.

The cartilage in particular, which is responsible for smooth running in the joint, is strongly affected by wear and tear. However, pain at rest in the hip region often only becomes apparent in the late stages of coxarthrosis. The damage to the cartilage or bone becomes noticeable while lying down and in most cases at night.

Inflammations are also particularly noticeable at rest. In the case of an inflammation of the hip joint, coxitis, those affected experience pain at night. Night-time pain can also indicate an inflammation of the bursa.

Rheumatism or gout can also be a possible trigger. In particular, hip pain at night should also be considered as pain caused by nerves. Nerves could be constricted and thus cause pain.

Especially when lying down the complaints with nerve involvement become symptomatic. If the pain radiates from the back towards the buttocks and hips, a slipped disc in the lumbar spine or complaints in the sacroiliac joint cannot be ruled out. Pregnancy is a great strain on the pelvis and hips.In some cases, this can lead to a so-called symphysis loosening, which can cause severe pain in the hip area.

On the front side of the pelvis is the pubic symphysis, also known as the pubic symphysis. During pregnancy, the body produces the hormone relaxin, which makes the ligaments in the pelvis softer and more flexible (and thus more stretchy). Due to the now loose ligaments, it is possible that one side of the pelvis has more room to move when moving the legs or walking than the other, causing pain in the hip.

Frequently, the pain occurs in the groin and pubic area. Pain in the hip area, which occurs during pregnancy, is usually more severe during certain movements such as climbing stairs or turning around in bed. They can also increase at night and during rest periods.

In very rare cases, there is not only a loosening of the pubic symphysis, but even a so-called diastasis of the symphysis. This results in an unusually wide distance between the pelvic bones because the pubic symphysis is very loosened. Should a painful symphysis diastasis occur during pregnancy, the symptoms can be alleviated by an orthopedic support belt for the pelvis.

The heavy strain on the hip during pregnancy can be reduced by various therapeutic options such as acupuncture, chiropractic or osteopathy. Usually the hip pain disappears quickly after the birth of the child, only in rare cases the complaints persist for more than a year.
