Pain during inhalation- Physiotherapy

Pain on inhalation is often caused by diseases of the ribs or lungs. In physiotherapy, respiration-dependent pain can be influenced by orthopedic treatment of the spine, rib joints or the patient’s statics. Diseases of the respiratory system and the lungs can also be favourably influenced by physiotherapy as part of thoracic mobilisation and respiratory therapy. Differential diagnosis BWS syndrome.

Therapy/treatment

The therapy depends on the cause of the pain: physiotherapy is very helpful in addition. In physiotherapeutic treatment for pain during inhalation due to lung diseases, techniques of respiratory therapy can be applied. These include thoracic mobilization, deepening of breathing, e.g. through contact breathing, and exercises to improve blood circulation and ventilation of the lungs through certain stretching positions.

Inhalation pain caused by lung disease may be supplemented, where appropriate, by inhalation, hot roll or other external means.

  • If the pain is due to orthopedic causes, such as blockages of the rib joint or vertebrae, an orthopedic examination will be performed followed by a causal therapy to correct any muscular imbalances, poor posture or overstrain. Blockades can be resolved by manual therapeutic techniques.

Often orthopaedic pain occurs during inhalation in a certain position or at a certain point of inhalation. The pain can radiate into the shoulder neck area or be accompanied by back pain. In cases of severe tension, pain medication, heat applications or muscle relaxants can support the therapy in addition to active therapy.

  • Pain during inhalation caused by diseases of the lungs, such as pneumonia or pleurisy, usually occurs throughout the entire inhalation. In addition, there are symptoms such as fatigue, coughing, tiredness or fever. Diseases of the respiratory organs should in any case be clarified by a doctor and treated with medication.

Left side pain

Left-sided pain during inhalation often frightens patients, as it is often associated with heart disease. This must be excluded. Complaints of the heart usually do not cause breath-related pain (which can occur, however), and can also lead to nausea, anxiety or radiation into the arm or upper abdomen.

Left-sided pain during inhalation can also be caused by simple blockages of the rib joints or vertebral joints. Due to the mechanical stress during the movement of the thorax, pain occurs depending on breathing. Diseases of the lung can also cause left-sided pain during inhalation. If there are accompanying symptoms, organs such as the left kidney or the spleen should be examined. These articles may also be of interest to you:
