Pain in labour

What is labor pains?

The pain during labor is also called labor pains. Pain during labor feels different depending on the intensity and frequency, as well as the type of contractions. Contractions occur not only immediately before and during birth, but already from the 20th week of pregnancy.

These pregnancy contractions usually have only a low intensity and short duration, which is why the pain is usually not felt as too strong. However, contractions that occur immediately before and during birth have a higher intensity. However, the perception of pain is very individual anyway, so that general statements about experiencing pain are difficult or even impossible to make. The intensity of the pain depends very much on one’s own pain tolerance, which in turn is strongly influenced by one’s physical and psychological condition.

How strong are contractions

Many women ask themselves the question of how severe the pain in labor is in the run-up to a pregnancy and at the latest at the end of a pregnancy. Often this question is accompanied by a certain fear of the birth and especially of the pain. Often the pain of labour and the pain during birth are described as the strongest pain in a woman’s life.

Just as often, however, women also describe an immediate forgetting of the pain as soon as they hold the newborn baby in their arms. It is difficult to rely on these statements because the pain experience is very individual. There is no way to reliably quantify the pain, i.e. to indicate its exact intensity.

How much pain is felt depends on many factors. These include the physical and psychological condition of the woman, the birth process and external circumstances. However, pain in labor is an intense sensation and is generally described as severe pain.

Unfortunately this cannot be denied. For many women, labor pains are an indescribably unpleasant feeling at the moment of experience. However, the pain usually disappears again abruptly after birth and it is important to remember that the pain does not cause any damage to your own body.
