Pain with inguinal hernia

Pain in an inguinal hernia usually manifests itself as pulling pain radiating into the entire groin and increasing with manipulation. Manipulation is carried out, for example, by palpation of the hernia or by pressing attempts, which increase the pressure in the abdomen. If there is an increase in pain within a short period of time with possible additional occurrence of nausea and vomiting, a doctor or an emergency room should be consulted immediately, as this could result in the hernial sac becoming trapped and thus an emergency.

Which doctor is responsible for a female inguinal hernia?

As a rule, the doctor in charge of inguinal hernias is the general or visceral surgeon. However, hernias are usually discovered by the family doctor or gynecologist. These either decide themselves whether surgery is necessary and refer the patient to a surgeon if it is necessary, or refer the patient directly to a surgeon.

The surgeon selects the procedure and performs the operation. Aftercare is again provided by the respective family doctor.
