Parental allowance application

What is the parental allowance application?

So that families can receive parents money, it is necessary that they make an appropriate request for parents money, the so-called parents money request, in time. To fill out the application, you need the birth certificate of the child. The application for parental allowance can therefore only be made after the birth of the child.

It is advisable to submit the application within the first three months after the birth of the child, since the parental allowance is paid retroactively for a maximum of three months from the date of application. Each federal state has its own parental allowance offices that accept and process the applications. In some federal states, the application for parental allowance can even be made online. The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth is a contact point and informs parents about the parental allowance offices responsible for them.

How do I apply for parental allowance?

The most important prerequisite for applying for parental allowance is the birth certificate of the child. The application can only be made when the child has already been born. With the birth certificate you can apply for the parental allowance at the appropriate parental allowance office.

You can get information about this from the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and find the responsible authority. Each federal state has its own form. You receive it from the respective parental allowance office and fill it out with personal information and bank account details.

In addition to the birth certificate, proof of previous income, the last tax assessment and, if necessary, other documents such as certificates of health insurance during maternity leave are required. The parental benefit offices help to fill out the application correctly and then accept and process the application. In some states it is also possible to fill out the parental benefit application online. This applies to Bavaria and Saarland, for example.
