Ultima ratio is stereotactic surgery, in which reversible implantation of deep cerebral electrodes is performed, usually in the area of the nucleus subthalamicus, or possibly in the area of the globus pallidus internus or other specific thalamic nuclei.
Rarely, irreversible thermocoagulation is performed.
