Parsley: Dosage

Parsley root is taken in the form of infusions and other preparations with low content of essential oil. However, at present, the root is included only in a tea mixture for the indication of rheumatism. Due to insufficient data, there is currently no approved finished drug with a defined indication.

The right dose

The mean daily dose is 6 g of the drug unless otherwise prescribed.

Parsley as a tea preparation

If you want to make your own tea from parsley, 2 g of the finely chopped root (1 teaspoon is about 2 g) is poured over boiling water and after 10-15 minutes is passed through a tea strainer.

As a mild diuretic, 2-3 cups of the tea can then be drunk throughout the day.

Contraindications

Due to the essential oil it contains, parsley root should not be taken during pregnancy.

The intake of parsley root is also contraindicated in inflammatory kidney diseases and water deposits in the tissues (edema) due to a restriction of cardiac or renal function.

Special instructions for use of parsley root

Because of the toxic effects of the pure essential oil, it should not be taken alone. However, when eating parsley leaves in various dishes, the aforementioned side effects are not to be expected.

During a flushing therapy, sufficient fluid intake, i.e. at least 2 l daily, should always be ensured in order to prevent water deficiency.

Parsley root should be stored dry and protected from light.
