Pedicure yourself

Pedicure self-made

Cosmetic foot care can also be done at home. Please note that if you have athlete’s foot, ingrown toenails, warts and corns, you should consult a doctor! Diabetics in particular should only perform foot care themselves after training, as the sensitivity to pain in the feet is often impaired by the disease and there is therefore a risk of cutting too deeply into the tissue when removing nails or calluses! To perform foot care yourself, you need the following materials:

  • Wash bowl
  • Bath additive
  • Nail scissors or clippers
  • Nail file
  • Pumice stone or cornea file
  • Nail polish at will
  • Nail Oil
  • Cream or lotion

Instructions for performing a foot care

The following are instructions for performing foot care Step 1:Start with a warm foot bath. This should not exceed 38° Celsius and last about 10 to 15 minutes; but no longer than that, otherwise the skin will dry out. Bath additives can be added at will.

Soaps are usually strongly alkaline and thus destroy the natural acid mantle of the skin, this also applies to the foot. Therefore use only ph-neutral soaps. Essential oils can also be added.

While lavender has a calming effect, menthol and camphor stimulate. The foot bath is used to cleanse, soften corneas and warm the feet by increasing blood circulation. Carefully dab the feet dry afterwards.

Pedicure Step 2: Carefully cut or clip off the toenails that protrude over the top of the toenail. Do not leave any sharp edges, otherwise there is a risk of ingrown toenails. The shape of the toenails should be as straight as possible, as edges that are too round like to grow in under the skin.

Then file the shortened toenails to remove sharp-edged corners. Pedicure step 3: Push back the cuticles carefully and slowly. Please only push, not cut, as the thin, sensitive cuticles can easily bleed and become inflamed.

Pedicure Step 4:Cosmetic pedicure includes the removal of the calluses. Carefully rub away excess calluses on heels and balls of feet with a pumice stone or a corn file. The cornea has been softened by the bath and should be easy to remove.

Please do not use callus planes, because the risk of injury is too great if the cut is too deep! Foot care Step 5: Depending on your preference, you can now paint your toenails or apply nail care oil. Wait until the nail polish is dry.

Pedicure Step 6:Afterwards you can massage a rich cream – e.g. a special foot care cream – into your feet in circular movements. This not only cares for the skin and protects it from drying out, but also stimulates the blood circulation in the feet. Cold feet become warm again.
