Peelings

The skin is constantly renewing itself. The dry and dead skin cells make it look colorless and dull, it quickly feels rough and uneven. The remedy is a peeling treatment, which works on the skin like fine sandpaper on wood: The peeling smoothes our outer shell. But a peeling can do even more: When removing the skin flakes, the blood circulation of the skin is stimulated at the same time, so that it glows rosy and is again more receptive for care substances. So that the peeling does not irritate, it should be matched to the respective skin type.

Peeling: match to skin type

The abrasive effect of a mechanical peeling depends primarily on the size and smoothness of the abrasive particles used. Their use depends on the skin type. Fine plastic granules made of polyethylene are rounded grains and have a gentle and uniform abrasive effect. They are therefore suitable for sensitive and less keratinized skin. Exfoliating granules of vegetable origin (for example, almond or cereal bran, ground apricot kernels) are considerably coarser in grain, have an irregular structure and a more intense abrasive effect. They are more suitable for large-pored, oily and horny skin, but also as a full body scrub. Similar is the case with sea salt and sugar.

Exfoliating forms

Depending on the area of application and abrasive grains used, there are different types of scrubs:

Peeling Skin type
Washing scrubs normal to oily
Exfoliating masks Oily and large pores
Bran and sea sand peelings coarse, thick, strongly horny
Peel-off masks normal to dry, sensitive
Means with erasing effect poorly perfused, large pores

Which peel is suitable when?

  • Wash peelings consist of a wash cream that contains abrasive grains. The washing active substances and abrasive particles cause the loose horny lamellae to detach. They are applied to the cleansed skin and massaged in in a circular motion. Then everything is washed off thoroughly; normal skin: once a week; oily skin: up to daily.
  • Peeling masks often contain, in addition to the abrasive particles, additional chemical substances such as salicylic acid (horn dissolving), allantoin (soothing), surfactants (degreasing), healing or clay (healing, anti-inflammatory). The mask is left to dry and then wiped off with a damp cleansing cloth or sponge. Is very suitable for oily and large-pored skin due to its strong degreasing effect.
  • Bran and sea sand scrubs: the purified bran is pulverized, mixed with water to form a paste and massaged on the skin, then washed off. Good for coarse, thick and very horny skin.
  • Peel-off masks have a gel-like consistency, are applied thinly to cleansed skin, and after drying, are removed from the skin as a whole. Excess horny particles are gently removed with. This scrub is very gentle and slightly astringent and therefore well suited for normal, dry and also sensitive skin.
  • Means with erasing effect you apply to dry skin and let it dry. Then you rub the scrub off again with wet fingertips. In the trade, these preparations are often called rubber creams. The simplest remedy is brewer’s yeast mixed with water. This scrub is good for poorly perfused, large-pored skin.

3 Peelings to make yourself

Before applying the exfoliating mask, it is best to clean the skin of the face with a cleansing lotion and then lightly moisten with lukewarm water.

  • Oil-sugar scrub (for dry and normal skin): mix a few spoonfuls of sugar with a few dashes of olive or sesame oil and mix thoroughly to form a paste. Apply this thickly (possibly with a brush), leave on for a few minutes and rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
  • Healing clay chamomile scrub (for impure skin): boil chamomile tea and let cool. Mix five to six tablespoons of it with three tablespoons of healing clay and mix thoroughly to form a smooth paste. Apply this (with a brush if necessary), leave on for a few minutes. Once it dries, gently rub it off with a damp towel and rinse the rest thoroughly with lukewarm water.Apply a moisturizer.
  • Almond yogurt scrub (for all skin types, if prone to pimples): three tablespoons. Mix natural yogurt with three tablespoons of ground almonds (alternatively hazelnuts) and a teaspoon of honey or calendula extract. Apply the paste thickly (possibly with a brush), leave on for a few minutes and rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
